Congo Square, John Lee Sanders
And Dennis Marcenko , bass, Chris Nordquist, Drums, Tim Porter, Guitar
This was a video I filmed The backstage Lounge on Granville Island, one of my favorite places to shop, and where I performed at Long John Baldry’s memorial service. I had some amazing band members and I still miss them, Dennis Marcenko, Tim Porter, and Chris Norquist, who played almost all my gigs with me when I lived in Canada for nine years. Sorry the video quality is so bad but the performance was amazing. It’s called Congo Square and was written by Sonny Landreth about a place in New Orleans that’s legendary where black Slaves not so long ago were allowed to play their music on Sundays.
It’s an amazing historic place and also in Louis Armstrong Park

I grew up in Louisiana and have many experiences exploring all of the elements. My favorite New Orleans gig was opening up for us in Dallas, Texas for a week long run, 1975. I became friends with the Drummer for The Meters in Dallas, Texas 1975. I later moved to Oakland and became friends with Zigaboo Modeliste, the original drummer for the meters. He had me on his album doing all keyboard, parts, saxophone, and background vocals, along with Dr. John.
